Layer your delays slowly and you may need one or two less delay pedals to achieve the tone you are looking for when running stereo.I am using some effects with a rack effects unit I have through the effects loop on my Marshall DSL40C amp. When running stereo things get a little more complex and if you are not careful you can end up with a muddy mess. What? You can never have enough delay pedals.
anyways, it's running now, and i've decided to quit slacking and update to leopard & pro tools 8. Couldn't get it to boot, even off of the install disc, so I had to bring it to apple. Well today, I got a kernel panic about 20 minutes before an 8 day project was supposed to start. i always backup my audio drive but never bothered with the Mac HD. So I just got my first lesson in backups. If i'm sounding paranoid, keep in mind i live in indonesia, where it floods all the time, and my studio has been robbed before as well. however, if they're in another room, somewhere out of sight, they might not go missing with the rest of your gear. also, if your place is robbed, thieves could quite possibly grab your hard drives along with your other stuff. why is this worthwhile? well, what if my studio floods and the computer and data disks are ruined? if the backups are sitting right there next to the computer, they're gone too. you can take the little time machine box, plug it in in the next room, then hide it behind something and leave it alone. personally i'm interested in time machine because it's networked wirelessly (and cheaper than the other wireless networked backup solutions i looked at). However, back to the topic at hand: time machine. if your HD has any physical problems (or even fairly bad os problems) you're screwed. it definitely works (i use it myself)ĭisk utility is NOT a back up solution. and if you dont have a pro studio, it's probably the cheapest/best diy backup solution if you're on a budget. Can't you already do this with "restore" in Disc Utility? Or are we recommending CCC because it is automatic?it's automatic, and free (though to really use it as a full backup solution it might be worthwhile to pay the $19 for the full version, it has better backup scheduling features) and for sure, if your running a professional studio, it would be an excellent idea to have a second disk close at hand with a perfect copy of your system disk, so you can be up and running quickly if your original system disk dies in the middle of a session. Sublime Text is a widely-known text editor that gets the job done effortlessly. Best HTML Editors For Beginners and Pros Sublime Text Makes you wonder if WordPress is ever going to advance their content editor to fully support programming languages a definitive thought for the future. We will be looking at both code editors, and WYSIWYG-type text editors that we can implement in our websites and projects and directly script with HTML5 code from within these text editors. With the introduction of HTML5, developers have invested a lot of time putting together and crafting the kind of text editors (for the web) that support native HTML5 language support. We also don’t want to work with editors that don’t fully support the syntax of the language we use, in this case, HTML5. We don’t want to write code in a text editor that does not offer us the freedom to customize and optimize our code seamlessly. Text editors are very much about usability and flexibility. Anyone who has worked with scripting and/or programming language will know the importance of a good editor. We are still experiencing the very early stages of web development, and the capabilities of scripting languages and the browsers themselves. HTML5 is one of the fastest evolving web technologies we know so much so that many web browsers are still trying to catch up to its full feature list. The presiding point from both Medeiros and Neofotistou is that pixel art is not a style, but a broad artistic medium. Twenty-five years after Sony and Nintendo tried to kill it, it's proving popular not just for its nostalgic appeal but as a platform for modern gaming experiences. Over the past decade, pixel art has experienced a renaissance thanks to the popularity of indie-developed games like Celeste and Eastward. It's no longer about technical compromise and limitations, but a flourishing art form inextricably tied to video games. But while many of these games look like they could have been released on the Super NES or Sega Genesis, they offer more complex graphics and gameplay than those systems could ever handle.īut how does a quirky pixel art game like Eastward make such an impression in an industry obsessed with horsepower and realism? These games see pixel art as more than a relic of the past. It joins Extremely OK Games' puzzle-platformer Celeste and Eric Barone's mega-hit farming simulator Stardew Valley (also published by Chucklefish) in a rapidly growing club of video games tapping into nostalgia with high-end pixel art graphics and a retro aesthetic. "What Eastward does best is create a world that feels like the games we played growing up,” my brother said after the game’s September 2021 release. But most of all, I was wowed by its gorgeous, highly detailed environments constructed entirely of pixel art. After its 2018 reveal, I was immediately drawn to the game’s Zelda-like adventure elements, unusually colorful post-apocalyptic narrative, and motley crew of characters. "I love the the game, and it is definitely worth buying." and.Playing Chucklefish's Eastward is like coming home to a place I've never been before. The metaphorical application of the poem to a scope beyond forest-navigation is obvious, as the experience is universal: we have all been faced with questions like “which subjects should I study?” “Should I stay at my current job or take the new one?”. (That's why he's going to say it “ages and ages hence”: because it is really an awesome thing to say!) The poet is fooling around and mocking the utterance of that idea, sure, as is clear from reading the entire poem and as convincingly demonstrated by the historical research in Rand al-Thor's answer, but the poet is also on to something more here. However, (as I said at the beginning of this answer), they are perfectly valid in their understanding of those three lines specifically, which are indeed intended to convey the idea they have. (See similar comments by David Orr, in video and in text - he's written an entire book called The Road Not Taken: Finding America in the Poem Everyone Loves and Almost Everyone Gets Wrong and the excerpt linked is good reading.) It is also telling that many people misremember the poem's title as The Road Less Traveled: Frost may have intended the title The Road Not Taken to be about the road he did not take, but many people who are strongly affected by the last lines seem to have interpreted the poem as being about the road not taken by (many) others: the less-travelled road he did take. So those who take the last three lines and think that they represent Frost's intention can be said to have “misunderstod” the poem. Exaggerate it, put on an act (“telling this with a sigh”), claim that his decision has always been to take the less-travelled road, and that this has made a difference. Years later, at parties and to grandchildren, he's going to make the difference seem larger than it was. Remember the original reason he picked the second road, because it was “perhaps” better, as it was “grassy and wanted wear”? The reason which, on closer examination, turned out to be flimsy as the difference was negligible? No matter he's going to stick to that story. What's more likely to happen is something else (I've added the quotation marks for clarity): “The next time I'm here, I'll take the other one” is what he tells himself, knowing fully well that there may not be a next time. And whenever we list pros-and-cons of any choice, taking one side of the matter and then the other, we are, in a sense, contradicting ourselves.) So there is already a fear of having picked the wrong one, which is assuaged with: (You could call this contradiction, but it's just that on closer examination the difference has vanished. Both roads are good perhaps the one he didn't take is good too. So, then again (“Though as for that”), the difference is not such a big one, possibly even non-existent. Immediately after making this decision on such flimsy grounds though, he is aware that: Why? Simply because it appears “perhaps” better, after looking at its grass and feeling that it needs walking on. He's considered one road and then decided to take the other one, which (“as just as fair”) is very similar. Of course, being a single person he can't travel both (what a delightfully absurd idea!), so he's having to make up his mind. In the very first line the author sets the context quickly: here he is, faced with two roads in a wood. In the context of the poem, though, it appears that the author may have intended (see questions on authorial-intent) something else (or something more), which becomes apparent if we read the poem closely, in its entirety and in order. (The rhyme, the repetition of the “I”, …) So those who wish to “borrow” the language of a poet to express this idea about themselves are certainly not doing anything “wrong”. Here we have a master poet who has cloaked this idea in creative language, and there are all sorts of subtle things that make the words memorable and charming. To use language is to give expression to ideas language begins to turn into poetry when the ideas are striking, or the form is striking, or both. And why not? They express an idea that is almost heroic: of doing the unconventional thing, being a maverick rather a conformist, of the virtue of individualism that has always resonated in America, of the satisfaction (or regret!) that your choice ended up making a difference. These lines, the last three lines of Frost's The Road Not Taken, have been endlessly quoted by many people: as epigraphs in their books, on their personal web pages, and so on. Quotes have a way of taking on a life of their own. For those who find they want a less cluttered Dock, though, this is the avenue to take. (29,545 points) A: I'm not able to drag application windows from one desktop to the next by just moving it to the edge of the screen. We suppose Apple presents this option as a way to quickly find, and use, applications people frequently open that aren't native to the Dock, from Preview to Zoom. Then move it down slowly with your finger. Ensure Scaled is selected under Resolution. If you would like to move a selected app to the tray at the bottom just place your finger on the selected app and hold it there till a black cross appears. Select the Apple Menu, then choose System Preferences > Displays. You can only have six apps on the bottom of your screen at a time. Or set it as a page that automatically opens up when you open your browser. You can connect it to another calendar that you do use often (see Step #7). At minimum, use the reminder email feature. In order for this calendar to work, you have to keep it in front of you on a daily basis. Step #6: Keep this calendar in front of you. In my opinion, it's much easier to settle on topics in advance! That way, you don't have to do the work of choosing your topic the same day you decide to write it. To get a clear picture of your overall content marketing schedule, you can go back in and add blog post topics to each day. Then go back through your "Publish Dates" calendar and add your topics in. Step #5: Brainstorm a list of topics to blog about. Because, if you check the appropriate people, the author of your post will get an email the morning of the day that their blog post draft is due (reminding them to write it!). on the day of the event? That's where these really come in handy. Remember those reminders that send at 7 a.m. At Nectafy, we have longer turnaround times for approval based on the author and the situation, so here's what our "Draft Due Dates" calendar looks like. The two-calendar model not only allows you to have a clear snapshot of publish dates, but also gives you an extra "task list" of draft due dates. Then add those dates to your "Draft Due Dates" calendar.įor many businesses, there's an approval process for posting, so articles must be written in advance. Step #4: Decide how many days in advance blog posts need to be completed and approved by. Notice that there's a little checkbox that says, "Send other people an email now and a reminder at 7am the day of the event." I love these little reminders! So, I always check the appropriate author/poster to ensure they get notified about that day's post both now and on that day.Īfter you start adding your events, your "Publish Dates" calendar will start looking something like this. You simply click on the appropriate day, and this pop-up box will appear. It's so easy to add an event to your calendar. This makes it really easy to see whose article will be going up on what day. We have separate authors writing each post, so when I create our calendar, I always include the name of the author in the title of the event. Step #3: Decide which dates you'd like to publish your content and start adding events to the "Publish Dates" calendar.Īt Nectafy, our most recent goal is to publish articles on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of each week. (Blue and orange are always our choices at Nectafy.) Also, remember to invite your co-workers to join each calendar-especially those that are participating in your content marketing. Name one "Draft Due Dates" and the other "Publish Dates." Make sure to choose a different color for each calendar for ease of viewing. To add the calendar, you'll go to the "Calendar" section. Having two separate calendars will allow you to toggle back and forth between draft due dates and publish dates when it's convenient for you to see one or the other. We're going to start by adding two calendars-one for blog post publish dates and one for draft due dates.ĭepending on your company size and approval processes for blog posts, you may want only one editorial calendar (with publish dates only), but I prefer having two. Step #1: Get a Basecamp account (if you don't already have one).īasecamp has a 30-day free trial, which means you can test it out right now! After the trial period, there's a flat rate of $99 per month. (It's pretty much a project manager's dream come true.) While it has a vast array of tools that are handy for your business, we'll just focus on the calendar today. I've been using Basecamp for about four years now, and I must say, I'm a pretty big fan. In case you haven't heard of it, Basecamp is an online project management and collaboration tool for businesses. So here's a simple way to create an editorial calendar using one of my favorite tools-Basecamp. Having this simple calendar in place will revolutionize the way you look at blogging for your business-it instantly makes it a priority, plus it makes it more fun! (Mainly because you're not scrambling at the last minute to figure out what you're going to do.) The solution? Creating an editorial calendar. Then, before you know it, it's been a month or two since you last published any new content! And that's not good. In order for your content marketing to be effective, publishing new articles on a consistent basis is key. If you've ever decided that you'll just blog "when you have time," you know that the time never really seems to come. |
